Disclaimer
Effective date: May 20, 2026
This Disclaimer applies to your use of the Vicinity website at inyourvicinity.ca (the "Service"), operated jointly by Spencer Spiegelman and Varun Mehrotra ("Vicinity," "we," "us," or "our"). It supplements our Terms of Service and is incorporated into them by reference. Capitalized terms used here have the meanings given in the Terms of Service.
1. General — "as is" and "as available"
THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT, FEATURES, AND FUNCTIONALITY MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH IT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.
We make no warranty that the Service will:
- meet your requirements;
- be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free;
- be free of viruses, malware, or other harmful components;
- produce any particular result; or
- be corrected if any defect is found.
2. Third-party event data
The Service displays event listings sourced from the Toronto Tech Week website. This information is presented for your convenience.
- We do not verify the accuracy, completeness, or current availability of third-party listings.
- Event details (date, time, location, price, host, capacity, age restrictions, accessibility) may change or be cancelled without our knowledge.
- We do not endorse any event, organizer, venue, or sponsor listed on the Service.
- We may add, remove, or modify third-party data sources over time.
Always confirm event details directly with the organizer before you travel, pay, or commit.
3. User-submitted content
The Service displays event listings and trip plans created by users. We do not pre-screen, verify, or endorse user-submitted content. Such content reflects the views of the user who posted it and not of Vicinity. You rely on user-submitted content at your own risk.
If you believe user-submitted content violates our Terms of Service, please report it to info@inyourvicinity.ca.
4. No professional advice
Information provided through the Service — including event recommendations, location suggestions, and scheduling around your Google Calendar availability — is provided for general informational purposes only. It is not legal, medical, financial, safety, travel, or any other form of professional advice. Do not rely on the Service as a substitute for professional advice tailored to your situation.
5. Location and routing information
Map markers, addresses, and any travel guidance shown on the Service are estimates and may be incorrect, outdated, or imprecise. Always rely on official routing, signage, and your own judgment for navigation and safety. The Service is not designed for emergency use; if you are in an emergency, contact local emergency services (in Canada and the United States: 911).
6. Calendar integration
When you connect your Google Calendar, the Service uses Google's free/busy data to suggest event times that don't conflict with your existing commitments. This is a scheduling suggestion, not a guarantee:
- free/busy data is cached for short periods and may not reflect changes you made in the last few minutes;
- the Service reads only your primary Google Calendar — appointments on other calendars are not considered;
- the Service does not write to or modify your calendar in any way;
- you are responsible for confirming your own availability.
7. External links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services, including organizer pages, ticketing platforms, mapping services, and social media. We do not control, sponsor, or endorse those sites, and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, privacy practices, or availability. Following an external link is at your own risk.
8. Availability and demo status
The current version of the Service is an MVP demo built for Toronto Tech Week.
- the Service is provided free of charge;
- features may be added, changed, or removed without notice;
- the Service may be unavailable, slow, or buggy at any time;
- data you create may be lost in the event of an outage, migration, or end of the demo period; and
- we make no commitment to long-term availability of the Service in its current form.

9. Jurisdictional limits
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. To the extent any of the disclaimers in this document are not enforceable in your jurisdiction, they will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in this Disclaimer limits any rights you have under applicable consumer-protection laws that cannot be waived by contract.
